Introduction

There are many animals that live on the farm.  Over time there have been many different animals that make a farm their home.  Through this project we will look at the animals that reside in the barn and what their jobs are.  What is the purpose of having animals on the farm?  Your task is to display the functions of animals on the farm through a poster representation.  You will learn from this project about the different animals on the farm and it is required that you display a barn on the poster and what it looks like as well as at least five different animals inside and outside of the barn.  This means that you will have to do some research as to what animals live on the farm and where they are positioned.  Next to each animal on the poster you need to place what is their purpose and a small paragraph has to be written to show that you understand the function of animals on the farm.

The Task

Your job is to evaluate the animals that are on a farm and decide what animals you want to live on your farm.  After you are done you have to make a poster and write a short explanation.  The posters will be displayed around the room.

The Process

The steps to this process are very easy and sequential.  To complete this project you just need to follow these steps:

  • Research different farm animals;
  • Choose what animals you want to have on your farm;
  • Make sure that you choose your animals wisely;
  • Decide where you want to place then on the farm;
  • You will have to produce a poster and draw a farm with where the animals go;
  • After that is done you will write a short explanation and they will be displayed around the room.

You may go to the web to do your research or use books that are found in the classroom and also the library.  This project will span a few days and will be done totally in class.

Evaluation

This rubric explains how each student will be graded.  There will be the content component and the appearance of the poster.

Content

Not a complete sentence, omits animal name or fact.

Gives an animal name and a fact but it is  not a complete sentence.

In a complete sentence the animal is named and a fact is given about the animal.

Appearance of Poster

The objects on the poster are not clear.

The barn and animals are clear but it is not clear where the animals go.

The animals and the barn are clearly drawn, there is a clear distinction where the animals are supposed to be.

Conclusion

Now that you have finished your project you know a little bit about animals on the farm and where they live.  We know that animals are very important and help us in many different ways.  I hope that you have learned a little bit more about the different animals on a farm.  This project is a creative way to display what you have learned and adds color and dimension to our classroom.
